Pete LaForest hit a two run homer and drove in the winning run with a single in the eighth inning Thursday, leading Durham to an 8-3 victor over Toledo in the International league opener for both teams.

LaForest drove in Anton French to give the Bulls (1-0) a 4-3 lead in the eighth. Edward Guzman then knocked in two more runs with a single of MudHens reliever Brian Schmack, who took the loss.

French added a two run homer in the ninth to make it 8-3.

Jason Maxwell hit a solo home run in the first inning off MudHens starter Pat Ahearne and then LaForest followed with a two run homer to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead.

The MudHens (0-1) tied it in the bottom of the first.

Warren Morris doubled to score Rich Gomez and then later scored when Jason Smith singled. Smith scored on a ground out.

Jesus Colome pitched two scoreless innings to get the win.

The crowd of 12,250 was the largest ever at Fifth Thid Field, which is now entering it's third year.
