The Cougars took advantage of the Kernels gifts of free passes to helpt hem to a 9 to 6 victory. This win moves the Cougars only one game behind the divison leading Kernels, with one game to go in the series. Today was not a good pitching day as the wind was howling to right center. Plus it was in the eighties, so all that together made things kinda interesting.

The Cougars would break a four all tie in the fourth with four runs of their own to take full control of the game. Kory Wayment lead things of with a walk. Chris Tritle then singled to center. Luis Perez would single to center to load the bases. Brian Ingram then reached on a fielder's choice, on the play Wayment would score, with Perez being out at second. Luke Appert grounded out to first, on that play Tritle would score. David Castillo was hit by a pitch. Eddie Kim then hit a double to left to score both Ingram and Castillo. The Kernels then made a pitching change taking out starter Abel Moreno and bringin in Jesse Smith. Brian Snyder would walk. Dustin Majewski then grounded out to second to end the inning.

That would give the Cougars bullpen some cushion, that unfortuantly they would need some of. In the ffith inning Quan Cosby lead off with a solo shot that went off of the facing of the deck in left field to make it a three run game. In the sixth Matt Brown would lead off with a single to left, then advance on a wild pitch. Blake Balkcom then grounded out to short. Bobby Wilson would hit a wind blown double to center to score Borwn to make things only a two run game. That thankfully would be the end of the scoring for the Kernels.

The Cougars scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Morel would walk the first two men he face, Ingram and Appert, a wild pitch would move them along a base. Castillo would be caught looking. Kim then singled to right to score Ingram. Snyder would reach on a fielder's choice, on the play Appert would score. I feel sorry for second baseman Howard Kendrick ont he play as big Eddie went down and did a nice job of breaking up the double play. Eddie is around 6'3", 260.

The Kernels would score their first run in the third inning. Wilson lead things off by walking. Aaron Peel struck out. Tommy Duenas then doubled to left center field to score Wilson. The Cougars would come back in the bottom of the inning to score two more runs. Ingram led off with a single to left. Appert reached on a fielder's choice, with Ingram being out at second. Castillo then hit his third homer of the season off of the scoreboard in left center.

Cedar Rapids' big inning came in the fourth when they scored three runs. Brandon Wood led off with a single to second. Matt Pali then hit a double off the top of the right field wall, that would score Wood. Brown then jakked a three run bomb to straight away center field to tie the game. Balkcom then doubled downt he left field line. Wilson would reach on a fielder's choice, with Balkcom being out on the comebacker to Cougars starter Steve Bondurant. Steve would get Balkcom in a run down and then make the throw to Ingram to get the out. Peel then singled to center. Duenas struck out looking to end the inning.

The Cougars would score one more run in the seventh. Kim led off with a double to left, he would ge tto third on a wild pitch. Snyder grounded out to short. Majewski then hit a liner to left, Kim would tag up a lumber in to score.

In the seventh inning Cougars pitcher J.R. Pickens did a nice job to get out of a jam. Cosby struck out to lead things off. Kendrick then was hit by a pitch, and went to second on a wild pitch. Wood moved him over to third by groudnign out to third. Matt Pali then came up and Pickens got him to ground out to second to end the inning.

Offensivley the Cougars started to finally actually score some runs. Eddie Kim was the big hero of the day, as he had three hits in four appearances. Two of them for doubles and he drove home three of the nine runs and scored another run.
