The South Bend Silver Hawks survived a close call Sunday to hang on to first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.
Alex Frazier smacked three hits and Augie Murillo drove in a pair of runs, helping South Bend post a 5-4 victor over Lansing.
Cruising along with a 5-0 cushion, the Hawks watched Lansing tally single runs in the seventh and eighth innings and two more in the ninth to cut the lead to just a run.
South Bend closer Alex Cremidan, though slammed the door by fanning Carlos Rojas with the tying run on third base to notch his sixth save.
The Hawks got on the board in the thir dinning on Murillo's one out, two run single, scoring Emilio Bonifacio and Tila Reynolds.
The margin grew to 4-0 in the sixth as Miguel Montero and Carlos Gonzalez delivered RBI singles.
Jeff Cook accounted for South Bend's final run in the seventh by driving home Bonifacio from third base with an RBI single.
Hawks' right hander Chad Scarberry (2-0) allowed just one run on two hits with five strikeout and three walks over seven innings.
Bonifacio and Cook chipped in two hits apiece for South Bend.

This time, the Lanisng Lugnuts just watched South Bend win it.
Lugnuts short stop Carlos Rojas got caught looking on a strikeout to end the game, 5-4 with two outs and runners on the corners.
After rallying from a four run deficit going into the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday, the Lugnuts (6-4) have lost four of their past five games, and are in second place, two games back of South Bend (8-2), in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.
"Form what I can see so far, although we've only played a couple of teams, these are going to be the teams to beat." said South Bend's Alex Frazier who went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
The Lugnuts had a chance to take over first place in the division coming into the series.
They won Friday's home opener in the bottom half of the final inning, but South Bend rallied in the ninth to win the game in extra innings Saturday.
Lansing and South Bend came in Sunday's game with the top two pitching staffs in the league.
Second year Lugnuts Randy Wells (0-1) made his second pro start since converting from catcher midway through last season.
He pitched five innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs and no walks and struck out seven.
"I felt great," Wells said. "I had command of all my pitches."
South Bend starter Chad Scarberry (2-0) had a no hitter through six innings but allowed two hits and a run in the seventh.
