The hitters let the Lugnuts down on Friday night, and it led to thier first shut out of the year and cost them a four game sweep of Beloit.

Lansing managed only five hits and four walks in a 3-0 loss to the Snappers.

"It seemed like every time we ripped one or made good contact, they made a great play." Lugnuts manager Julio Garcia said.

Only four Lugnuts reached scoring position, and Lanisng (9-6) stranded eight runners on base.

"You could tell early on things weren't going our way tonight." said catcher Jake Fox, who entered Friday's game tied for the Midwest League with a .375 batting average.

Lansing starter Randy Wells (0-2) can attest to that string of tough luck.

Wells gave up three doubles in a row in the fifth inning, sandwiched between two Lansing errors that made all three of the Snappers (6-9) runs unearned.

"I just kept trying to throw it harder and harder after each double." said Wells, who gave up eight hits, one walk and struck out four. "Maybe I need to re-evaluate my job in that sitation and calm down a bit."

It was the second consecutive game that Wells has been rattled and taken out in the fifth inning.

"I think sometimes, he tries to get a little too cute." Garcia said. "He used to be a catcher and he still thinking like that at times out there."

Relief pitcher Ed Campusano went two innings, allowing one hit with one walk and a strike out. Reid Willett pitched the final two innings, recoring six straight outs.
