The Cougars ran into a great pitching performance by most of the Peoria Chiefs staff tonight as they lost 7-2. Mark Michaels started for the Chiefs and went the first five innings giving up only two hits and one walk. The Cougars got a runner to third in the second after a one out double by Brian Snyder and a ground out by Dusti Majewski to move the runner over. Snyder would be stranded at third after a ground out by David Harriman to end the inning.
Peoria on the other hand had no offensive problems as they cranked out ten hits and seven runs against Steve Bondurant and Brigmer Leon. Bondurant just gave up too many hits along with two walks. Two errors by the Cougars that helped ammount to two of the runs didn't help much either.
Things started off bad in the first for the Cougars as Sal Frisella started things off with a walk. Two outs later Terry Evans would double to left to score Frisella for the first run of the game. Milko Jaramillo lead off the third with a single to center. He would've been picked off by Bondurant at first. Only problem is that the throw from first baseman Eddie Kim was high and Jaramillo would be safe at second. Two out later, Cory Haerther singled to center to score Jaramillo.
Jaramillo would lead off the fifth inning, that would amount in the end to a six to nothing lead for the Chiefs. He would single to right. Frisella then grounded one to short, shortstop Kory Wayment tried to flip one to second baseman Brian Ingram but flipped the ball over his head and everyone was safe. Jaramillo would get to third on the error by Wayment. Brenden Ryan singled to center to score Jaramillo. A ground out later, the Cougars intentionally walked Terry Evans to load the bases with only one out, to try to put a double play in order so that they could escape the inning. Tyler Parker grounded one to first for the second out. On the play Frisella scored and everyone else would move up a base. John Santor lined one to center that centerfielder Dustin Majewski almost caught, that would drive in Ryan and Evans.
Amazingly the Chiefs wouldn't be done scoring or tortoring their fans. Matt Pagnozzi was hit by Brigmer Leon to lead things off in the sixth. Pagnozzi would steal second base. Two outs later, Ryan singled to center to put runners ont eh corners. Haerther singled to center to score Pagnozzi for the seventh run.
Kane County would score their two runs in a wacky seventh inning. Chiefs reliever Brandon DeJaynes walked the bases full of Cougars, Kim, Snyder and Majewski. Harriman would strikeout for the first out. Danny Gibbons would be struck out for the second out. With two strike on Chris Tritle, DeJaynes threw a wild pitch that would score Kim. The next pitch was also wild and this one would score Snyder. The next pitch Tritle would be caught looking at to end the inning.
Parker would lead off the seventh inning with a double pff the top of the wall in center. Santor then lined out to center. Matt Dryer would ground out to third to move Parker to third, with two outs. Brigmer Leon then got Pagnozzi to ground out to short to end the threat.
The Cougars struck out 12 times, six of those were looking. They also walked three times. Snyder and Harriman had the only two hits. J.R. Pickens came in and pitched a perfect eighth inning with two strike outs.
