Apparently, that case of the Windy City Blues that the Yankees picked up in suburban Chicago followed them home to Battle Creek.

After being outscored 37-2 in a four game series at Kane County, which plays in the western Chicago suburb of Geneva, things weren't much better for the Yanks Monday night at C.O. Brown Stadium. Clinton claimed an 11-3 triumph over Battle Creek, and only a three run ninth inning rally kept the Yankees from their third shutout loss in five games.

"We're not doing anything right, pitching, hitting, defense, everything." said Battle Creek manager Mitch Seoane, whose team has lost four times in five games and fell to 10-14. "I don't know what it is. We're gonna have to figure it out."

Seven of Clinton's runs came on two swings of the bat by Andrew Wishy and Josh Kreuzer. Wishy hit a three run homer in the fifth inning on the first pitch from Yankee reliever Brandon Harmsen, then Kreuzer hit a grand slam in the seventh inning on reliever Josh Smith's second pitch.

Meanwhile, Battle Creek's offense continued to sputter until the final inning, when the Yanks got five hits to double their total for the evening. Prior to the ninth, jus tone Yankee runner reached third base.

It was an offensive reprise of what happend in Kane County, where the Yankees batted just .139 and had just one hit in the series opener, but avoided getting swpet with Sunday's 1-0 win.

Battle Creek's defense on Monday also had it's share of problems. Though left fielder Erold Andrus made a fine diving catch in the second inning, the Yankees committed three errors in the game.

"We're no playing good ball right now, it's as simple as that," said Yankee catcher Tommy Rojas. "It's not just a couple of people, it's everybody, the pitching down to the hitting."

It all combined to spoil the Battle Creek debut of starting pitcher Steven White. The righthander, who joined the Yankees out of extended spring training, allowed five hits, five walks and five runs (four earned) in 4 1/3 innings.

After surrendering an unearned run in the first inning, White (0-1) held Clinton scoreless until the fifth, though he did have to escape a fourth inning bases loaded jam created by three straight walks. It all unraveled in the fifth, when White put four runners aboard with a walk and three hits, then Harmsen relieved him and saw Wishy change a first pitch changeup into a three run homer.

Cesar Herrera (2-1) was creditied with the win for Clinton (14-10)
